This course welcomes MA students from different national and disciplinary backgrounds. This includes students who train to become teachers and want to deepen their knowledge on the European Union.
For several weeks, it is conducted in a hybrid mode together with the University of Belgrade, Prof. Nemanja Džuverović and his students. Two guest researchers from Belgrade at HU, Aleksandra Knežević and Milan Varda will collaborate along the hybrid session.
The objective of the course is to learn more about the EU’s actions in the field of protection of academic freedom. In doing that, students will get to know in greater detail how policy-making in the EU works, which institutions and processes are relevant and how the EU’s multi-level governance system serves as an opportunity structure for different types of political actors. Students will improve their understanding of academic and political discussions on the analysis of decision making regarding academic freedom in the European Union and foster their background on everyday practices of EU institutions.
In addition, the course aims to actively involve participants in different types of knowledge acquisition. This includes:
- in-depth reading and guided text-based discussions of relevant academic texts (made available through HU’s electronic learning platform Moodle)
- analysis of websites, EU documents and other communications (own research by students)
- presentations on case-studies prepared by the students
